WWAN
Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWAN) offer the most expansive range of
all wireless networks. WWAN’s work through mobile phone or public
networks and provide a way for field-based employees, parcel
delivery and transportation organizations to access real time data.
WWAN’s can be accessed anywhere cellular service is available, often
these network types combine data with voice.
WPAN
Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN) are short-range networks,
often used for point to point communications, utilizing Bluetooth™
technology, commonly used to interconnect compatible devices near a
central location, such as a retail point-of-sale area. Bluetooth™
can also be used as a cable replacement technology such as wireless
printing from a PDT to a portable printer.
WLAN
Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) deliver a larger range than
WPANs and use an industry standard known as 802.11. WLAN’s are
typically used in confined areas within an organization, such as a
warehouse and can be considered as the wireless extension of the
local area network. The range of a WLAN can be up to 300 feet, a
coverage area is normally extended by using strategically placed
wireless access points within a given facility.
WFAN
Wireless Full Area Networks is an Hand Held Products exclusive and
integrates WPAN, WLAN, Bluetooth and WWAN into a single wireless
technology platform. This ensures wireless accessibility and
flexibility over a wide range of mobile applications – allowing
real-time data acquisition and information access –anytime,
anywhere. WFAN is available in Hand Held Products' 9500 and 7900
Dolphin Series of Mobile Computers.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is the most widely used wireless personal area network
(WPAN) standard. Bluetooth allows the transmission of data between
Bluetooth-compatible devices such as cellular phones, computers and
data collection, and portable data terminals like Hand Held
Products' Dolphin® Mobile Computers and IMAGETEAM™ Wireless Hand
Held bar code readers. Most Bluetooth implementations have a typical
range of about 30 feet.
