Dozens of these labels are printed at the admissions desk and are sent to the nursing station on the floor the patient is on. The patient's wristband is applied and then all lab work, drugs, etc. are identified with these same bar coded labels. Prior to administering drugs, the wristband is scanned and drug is scanned to ensure a match. Labels are applied to all specimens that go to the lab to ensure identification back to the patient.
