TEKLYNX HL7 Wristband Printing Software
Health Level 7 (HL7) is a standard for communicating within the
healthcare industry. Some Hospital Information Systems (HIS) are
capable of outputting the HL7 structure based on the execution of a
business process or request. An HL7 compliant system can understand
the data and react accordingly. In this example the data is used to
print a bar coded patient wristband.
Solution
A Hospital Information System outputs an HL7 compliant data stream
based on the successful admittance of a patient throughout the
hospital’s existing admittance system. That data stream is routed to
a print server running in the hospital’s server room. Upon receipt
of the data, a bar code wristband is printed with the patient
information contained in the file. The process is automatic and the
printer can be located anywhere in the facility with a connection to
the network.
